Position – US Trust & Estate Tax Preparer

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced US Trust & Estate Tax Preparer with hands-on experience in preparing federal fiduciary, estate and gift tax returns.

The ideal candidate should have practical experience preparing Forms 1041, 706 and 709, along with related schedules, supporting workpapers and beneficiary reporting.

This position requires strong knowledge of US federal tax rules relating to trusts, estates, gifts, fiduciary accounting and estate tax.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and review Form 1041 – U.S. Income Tax Return for Estates and Trusts.
• Prepare Schedule K-1s and related fiduciary schedules.
• Prepare Form 706 – U.S. Estate (and Generation-Skipping Transfer) Tax Return.
• Prepare Form 709 – U.S. Gift (and Generation-Skipping Transfer) Tax Return.
• Prepare supporting schedules and workpapers for estate and gift tax returns.
• Analyze estate assets, liabilities, deductions, distributions and beneficiary interests.
• Handle trust and estate income, capital gains, investment income and distributions.
• Assist with estate tax calculations, taxable gifts and GST tax matters.
• Review prior-year returns and carry forward relevant information accurately.
• Reconcile tax workpapers with brokerage statements, accounting records and other supporting documentation.
• Prepare beneficiary reporting, including Schedule K-1.
• Identify missing information and communicate questions to the reviewer/manager.
• Research and resolve technical US tax issues relating to trusts and estates.
• Maintain organized and well-documented tax files.
• Assist with federal and, where applicable, state fiduciary, estate and gift tax filings.
• Meet tax filing deadlines and internal quality-control requirements.

Required Experience

Essential:

• 3+ years of experience in US tax preparation, preferably with a significant focus on Trust & Estate taxation.
• Strong understanding of fiduciary taxation and estate/gift tax concepts.
• Experience preparing supporting schedules and tax workpapers.

Preferred:

• CPA / EA / CA / ACCA or equivalent qualification.
• Experience working with US CPA firms.
• Experience with high-net-worth individuals, trusts and estates.
• Experience with complex trusts and decedent estates.
• Experience with state estate/inheritance tax returns.
• Tax document management/workflow software
